14A – Halfway Reflection

Image
1) Behaviors I have used to keep up with the requirements of the course is to just be more organized and not procrastinate as much. Something I found that I was doing last semester was waiting for the last minute to start doing things, for this course I learned that I cannot do that so I started working on things in advance. 2) A time where I really felt like giving up was when I was not doing so well in school. What pulled through was a grade I got on a test (an A) and it really cheered me up. I do feel like I developed a better attitude these past two months simply due to the way things are graded in this course. If you miss one assignment you are automatically brought down to a 97 and an A is a 95 for the course. 3) Three tips If you don't fail you are never really going to learn anything. Little things can do a lot for you. Some people just won't like you because they are jealous.

13A – Reading Reflection No. 1

1)  I read about the Wright Brothers, what surprised me the most was that the USA did not acknowledge them, not even responding to their letter. What I admired most was that Wilbur continued to work despite his accident. There was nothing that I did not admire from these guys, they are incredible and they worked really hard for what they achieved. The Wright Brothers definitely encountered failure. Inventing something as complicated as a plane, there is bound to be failure. What I love about this is that they continued and continued despite all of the negative feedback (doubters). What they did was just learn more about why it failed and try to fix what went wrong. 2) Competencies I noticed was that they were extremely intelligent, obviously. Both of them had to have a strong mental game, they had to deal with all of the failures from previous people. 3) What I found confusing was that Wilbur (the older one) was raised to let Orville (younger one) to be the boss. I guess ...

12A – Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 1

The segment I choose were people that try to avoid the UF parking system .  2. The interview I had was with a freshman from the football team. He has a scooter and drives to practice daily. He can use the parking lot for the players at the stadium and has no problems to park his scooter there. From there he is usually close to all his classes and walks not more than 2 minutes. The only “problem” he would have is to find a spot at Keys Complex, but usually he always finds a spot. If he doesn’t find a spot he just parks his scooter in front of the door. He hasn’t got a ticket yet, so it works out not bad for him so far. He doesn’t need to know where spots are, he just parks wherever he wants to. 3. The second interview was with a girl from a sorority. She has a scooter that she parks at the sorority house. This is not a big deal because she spends a lot of time at the house. She avoids to park her scooter on campus because the opportunities are so bad and she has no ...

11A – Idea Napkin No. 1

Who am I?   My name is Eric Friese. I think the fact that I’m doing sport and that I’m on the UF swimming team makes me very ambitious. I learn daily that I have to work for my goals and that hard work is the key to success. When I fail, what happens daily and what is normal, I have to get up and continue. I’m really to work hard for my business and to give a lot of effort.   What am I offering? I will develop an app that will show parking zones with their required decals on the UF campus. The app will also show how many parking spots are available in the parking spots for scooters and cars. The app works with satellite pictures that send pictures of the parking lots to the app every 5 minutes. It updates very quick and shows the user the best options.   Who am I offering it to? My costumers will be students and/or teachers on the UF campus. They all have to park their scooters or cars somewhere and that’s where the problem starts. Everyone with ...

9A – Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2

Interview 1: I talked to one of my roommates. He told me that he wouldn’t mind if athletes would get paid. He also has no idea how the whole NCAA system works, but in his opinion they should get paid because what they are doing is already kind of professional, and professional athletes should get money.   Interview 2: I asked my one of my friends from home in Germany what he thinks. He is a normal student and was never in a sports program. He thinks that athletes shouldn't get paid because in his opinion, it’s the athlete’s choice and free time to be in a sports team. He loves to watch sports, but doesn’t think they should get paid unless they play in a major league as professionals.   Interview 3: The 3rd interview was with one of the students that sits next to me in one of my classes. He played football in college, but retired when he went to college. He thinks that it would be great if athletes would get paid, but thinks that it will not happen in the next...

8A – Solving The Problem

My personal experience here in the United States, from coming from Europe is, that we waste so much plastic here. Especially in water bottles and forks and knifes. Often times, we just have the small 500ml bottles fine, but this wastes so much more plastic. I remember when I am home, we always ahem 1,5l litre bottles. Here, I drink 3 500ml bottles instead. When In go to the supermarket I always see those big 24 bottles packs with 500ml bottles, and I always ask myself: why not just buy a couple 1,5 litre bottles? The same with fork and knife. I cant understand why the Americans use so much plastic knifes and forks instead of real stainless steel forks and knifes, which are reusable, better for eating and better for the environment because they are nit out of plastic.   So, my idea is that restaurants should offer steel forks and knifes because it’s just better for eating, cheaper over the time because you can reuse them for years, you only have to wash them. And if we a...

6A – Identifying Opportunities in Economic & Regulatory Trends

1   An Algorithm That Grants Freedom, or Takes It Away A) https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/06/technology/predictive-algorithms-crime.html B) The article explains the case of a 30 year old man who had deemed as a “high risk” after he got released from jail in 2018. The reason he is a high risk is because a computer algorithm gave him that status   C) The costumers are the people that get classified by that algorithms, wether it’s fair or not D) This is very difficult because the decisions are made by a computer, not a psychologist who sees them in person. I think a computer can’t decide who is a high risk or low risk for the society, based on the system predicted.   2 Uber Posts Faster Growth, but Loses $1.1 Billion https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/06/technology/uber-growth-losses.html The article reveals some of the numbers Uber made this year compared to last year. They grew a lot more, but made less profit. The costumers are definitely all the Ub...

7A – Testing the Hypothesis, Part 1

Who: College Athletes What: College Athletes want to get paid, but it would destroy the recruiting process Why: Because players would only go to the university that offers the most money The NCAA prohibits college athletes so earn money. College athletes on the other side want to be able to earn money with their sport. They bring their universities so much money, and being an athlete is like a full time job for them. But it’s just not realistic that college athletes get paid and it would destroy the fairness of recruiting. Players would only chose the university that offers them the most money. Also, not every university has enough money to pay their athletes. Programs like FSU have problems to make more money than they spend on everything in one season. They wouldn’t be able to pay their athletes big money. Programs like Alabama or Clemson that make tons of money through football would have so much money that they could offer potential recruits a lot. Those universities w...
